I am showing my recent Scientific Numberism etchings inspired by the cosmos in May at my gallery. I’m very excited about this series and am looking forward to geeking out with you about space and the science involved at the two events.

The first showing is a more private affair. My gallery will be the only one open in the building. This will give us a chance to talk about the art and scientific concepts in a more intimate setting. This is an RSVP event. Really, anyone is invited, I’d just appreciate a heads up as to how many people are coming so I can prepare. If you’d like to come to the private pre showing on Wednesday, May 1st, send me an email at Sienna.Morris@gmail.com or FleetingStates@gmail.com with how many people you are bringing.

The exhibit is also showing during the public monthly Portland Art Event, First Thursday on the 2nd. Each show is from 6pm – 10pm and are free to attend.

I’m also offering the originals and limited editions on my etsy site for preorder. Whether or not you can make it to the show, you can still prepurchase the pieces there.

The show features my newest piece “Universal Proprioception”, which I’ve been working on for the past month or so. If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr, you have heard me going on about it.
The pieces highlight a collection of scientific concepts that confound and inspire me to learn about the cosmos as well as a collection of questions about the Universe that have pushed me in this direction. There are also a collection of smaller “satelite” galaxy etchings that surround the piece, some of which react to UV lighting.

————————-

Each adventure into science starts with a tiny spark of curiosity. We are like children at the feet of the Universe, full of awe and confusion, staring up at the sky with big questions that fill our little heads and lift us up to meet the cosmos. These pieces represent a little of that curiosity in myself, to remind myself to keep going, to keep learning and asking questions, despite how difficult, complex and ridiculous the journey is.

This is “Universal Procrioception”, which will be completed for the showing.

Sienna Morris draws entirely with numbers and formulas, combining her love for art and science into her work. She is self taught and uses this work as part of her learning process.
At the gallery event originals, giclee canvas and paper prints and shirts will be available. The originals, as well as the smaller etchings, will be available for preorder on her Etsy site and at the Private RSVP showing on Wednesday, May 1st. Information to RSVP will be available on the Fleeting States Website and Facebook event.

Are you an artist interested in the geekier side of life? Fleeting States Studios’ upcoming June first Thursday show, “Just for Geeks and Giggles” is calling for submissions. Be it sculpture, paintings, comic style illustrations, clothing, jewelry or whatever else your geeky mind can think of, we want to see it.

Now for the nitty-gritty details, we will be showing 1 to 3 pieces of art from each accepted artist. Submissions should be sent via e-mail to fleetingstates@gmail.com and should include either a website with examples of your art, or up to 7 photos.

If you are of a mind to create something new for the show, or haven’t done anything particularly geeky before, feel free to send examples of what you have done, along with a description of the piece you would like to create.

A reminder: Everything must be inspired by geek culture (TV shows, movies, comic books, games, etc.), and local Portland artists are preferred.

Keep up on the show through the facebook event

I’m back in Portland from our trip to Australia. Oz Con was a blast. I’m not really certain how to briefly describe it. Hanging out with Matthew Clark and the group of crazy-talented Aussie Comic book artists in Perth and Adelaide was just awesome. I’ve come back slightly less pale and quite a bit inspired. I hope to cross paths in the future. Until then, I will miss their company, I highly recommend checking them out if you don’t already know them.
You can find them on the Comic Artists, Writers and Publishers Guest lists on the OZ Con website Here.
I also have to say that the folks who run Oz Con are just awesome. They certainly know how to put on a con and make sure everyone has a good (and successful) time. Both Perth and Adelaide were great cons for con goers and artists/vendors alike. Australia isn’t an easy place for me to go to, but given the chance, I’d be there again next time without a doubt. If you are in Australia, they are hosting another con in Melbourne in July.

Being there for two weeks left its mark and I hope to return to Australia some day with Tab. If there’s a place for me to sell my artwork like Portland Saturday Market, I just might make Aussie plans in the next couple of years. We shall see.

I’m still recovering from the excitement and jet lag, but I’m ready to get back to work. Let’s see, news back in the states:

I am trying out a new (for me) internet thing. I just started a tumblr, where I’ll be posting more progress shots and sciency geeky ramblings. (I’m new to it, so I’ll be fumbling my way through it. Feel free to make fun of me as I very clearly age in front of you, shaking my fist at all this new interweb stuff I know so little about these days). I put up a few shots from the trip as well, which you can check out at SiennaMorris.tumblr.com

I’ll be working on my Universal Proprioception piece (which by the way, William Shatner rather liked. He asked what I do, and if you know me at all, you know I responded by rattling on for an hour about science, art, scifi and geekery. He didn’t seem to mind), as well as getting started on a Batman piece and a Doctor Who piece.

In other exciting news, by way of talking to Shatner about my work, I found out through the grape vine that Sir Patrick Stewart also commented on my Locutus piece I had him sign back at ECCC. (!) From what I hear, he dug the numbers and would have liked a copy. I had intended to give him a print and/or shirt but chickened out once I was in the line. We’ll see. Perhaps in the future I’ll have the chance to give him one. I’d be very happy for him to have a copy of the piece. I’m just ecstatic that he enjoyed it! This is also another lesson in remembering not to over think a thing.

Alright, back to work. Enjoy the new adventures in interwebbing and see you this weekend at Portland Saturday Market.

And here’s a shot of a dead coral on my knee on Rottnest Island. It was a glorious island!!

I am about to set off on a Geek Adventure with my good friend, Matthew Clark (AKA Holmes). We’re off to Oz Con in Australia where I will be assisting him at his artist table, selling his incredible work. We’ll be gone for 2 weeks in Perth and Adelaide. (!!!)

Matthew is the crazy-talented artist I recently collaborated with on the lovely Doctor Who piece below, featuring the 9th Doctor and Rose (now available in exchange for monies on my Etsy site).

While I’m gone, my lovely assistant, Heather, my husband Tab, and a few fellow geeks will be running our booth at Portland Saturday Market. We prepared for my time away by making lots of art so that there’s plenty available to you, which are all signed and ready to hang, including a collection of signed and numbered limited edition canvases. ECCC loved my small glowing pieces, so I’m out of those, but I have hand painted glowing pieces available from 16″ x 20″ and up.

You can also buy online at either of my online stores at FleetingStates.com/store or SiennaMorris.Etsy.com.

If you order online or at PSM and the item is in stock, you can expect to receive it in about a week if you are in the US. If, however, you seek a piece that we are out of, I’ll have to make it and sign it when I get back to the states, which gives a wait time of about 3 – 4 weeks. If this is the case, Heather will send you an email letting you know of the additional wait time. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Sienna.Morris@gmail.com I will not be reachable by telephone for my trip.

Other than that, our geeky, arty First Thursday show , the “Super Electric Gaming Arts” show (or S.E.G.A) , Featuring Tabulanis Morris and Marcus Adams is this Thursday from 6-10pm! Enjoy the geekiness, art and wine doubly since I will not be there.

I am very excited to announce that I am setting up shop at the 2013 Emerald City Comic Con! I am an exhibitor, and am bringing a wide array of geeky/sciencey/mathy numberism art in Canvas, Paper and TShirt form.

For ECC, I am making a special run of Doctor Strange shirts (which I don’t normally have) as well as a collection of math and science 11 x 14 paper prints which I’m planning on selling for $20 or $25 each (Which I never ever have).

Find me in the exhibitor hall March 1st – 3rd at the Washington State Convention Center.

I’m hoping I’ll have time to enjoy the con as well, and see if I can meet up with some of the amazing artists, actors, writers and creators they booked for this show. Have I mentioned that Patrick Stewart is going to be there?! There’s folks from Star Trek, Stargate, XFiles, Invader Zim… oh so much geekiness to be had….

You can still purchase tickets here if you haven’t already. This is my first time at ECC. I’m very excited to have been invited to participate.

Portlanders: I will also have my booth set up at the Portland Saturday Market for the opening weekend of Saturday Market. My lovely assistant, Heather, will be running the booth for me.

For February’s First Thursday, we are exhibiting “Love and Loss”, an exhibit of sensual oil paintings by Robert Francian.

When I lived upstairs in the Everett Station lofts (before we got the gallery space) I’d sneak up to Robert’s window, trying to catch a better glimpse of the large paintings scattered about his loft. These large scale oil paintings struck me the moment I saw them, and while I know it might be a little creepy with me peeking through his window for a better look at these beautiful nudes, it’s his fault for being so talented. Honestly, if he just would have opened his blinds, it would have been more comfortable for everyone involved. ; )

So when figuring out who to show for the love month, it didn’t take me long. All of his work features women, many of them nude, and most of them monochromatic. Every now and then, you’ll find a piece with a shot of color (my favorite one, being this awesome lady covered in paint).

According to Robert’s Statement, which you can read here, Francian’s work asks if anything is gained if nothing is lost, paring the beauty of these women with the suggestion of darker undertones and hidden emotion.

To see more of his work, visit Francian.org

Visit the gallery to see these striking paintings and speak with the artist at February’s First Thursday art event. .
